April 2012

Talen had several doctor appointments this month.  He went to the eye doctor (Dr. Gooch) and everything seems to be looking good.  Talen is far sighted, so when we get his communication device, we may need to look into getting him glasses depending on how near/far the screen is to his eyes.  But, we will cross that bridge when we get to it.  We also decided to have Talen get back into HBOT.  Our friend Krista and her son Taylor have graciously offered to help.  One of the two of them will get in with Talen so that I don't have to find a babysitter for Daxton!!  It works out great because I hated the stress of having to get in with Talen and still find someone to keep an eye on the baby!!  So, thanks a million Krista and Taylor!!  We are still continuing to take Talen to see Dr. Stockwell - although at this point I don't really think that he will be able to do anything for Talen.
Kennedy has been busy this month too!  She got sick again (and by sick I mean that nasty cough that she gets because of her asthma).  Jay offered to take her into Instacare and we were glad that he did because they said she was bad enough that they put her on steroids again.  (Although, I am getting nervous about constantly putting her on steroids, so I am looking into taking the dive into the "essential oils" craze.  We will see how that goes!)  Kennedy also finished up soccer this month.  Her team did pretty good.  They had 3 wins, 3 loses, and one game cancelled because of weather.  I'm so proud of how much better she is getting - practice really does make perfect!!
Daxton had his 1 year appointment with Dr. Thompson.  He is 19 lbs. 12 ozs. which puts him in the 10 percentile.  Dr. Thompson said that we don't really need to be worried, but since his is going from the high end to the low end we should probably keep an eye on him.  I'm not too worried though.  We are switching from breast milk to whole milk, so that should fatten him up in no time!  Plus he hadn't eaten before I took him into his appointment which could be some cause for the low weight.  Anyway, he is 28 3/4 inches long which puts him in the 18 percentile.  Average height for kids his age is 29.8 inches so he is near perfect in my opinion!!
The only other excitement that happened this month was that Jay's sister, Brooke, had her baby so we have a new little nephew.  The Vaughn family just keeps growing and growing!!

Daxton

I originally wanted Jay to take these pictures to show how cute Dax is when he eats.  He is like a little bird - He patiently waits for you to feed him with his mouth open just as wide as he can.  It is adorable!!  But, once we took out the camera, Daxton started playing it up and we got all sorts of cute/goofy pictures.  Silly little boy!!

Almost Walking

Daxton has been walking along the furniture for forever, but he just doesn't want to walk alone yet.  In fact, he doesn't even want to hold my hands and walk, he is more than happy to just crawl if he needs to get anywhere.  And to tell the truth, I am totally fine that!  I just know that as soon as he figures it out, he is going to be EVERYWHERE and into EVERYTHING!!  So for his birthday he got this little tricycle thing and he has started to push it around.  I was finally able to catch it on tape and if you watch to the very end, he takes his first step!!! (actually it was his second, I missed the first one, but we are going to call this his first!)

Video of Daxton Eating Cake

I had to trim this into several small videos so that it would load.
Sorry it took so stinking long!!!

My baby turned 1

I can't believe it has been a year ago that we had our sweet little Daxton!  Wow, time sure flies!!  I decided to have a balloon party (since most little kids like balloons more than presents anyway).  We put the invitations in balloons that said "Pop Me" on them and delivered them to all his cousins and friends.  Then, when everyone arrived, we had a pop-the-balloon with a dart game (instead of a pinata) which everyone seemed to love!  Next, it was time for presents!  He got spoiled with lots of toys and clothes.  Then came the best part of all - the cake!!  I knew that Daxton would not have a problem digging into the cake and I was right!  He went to town!!  It was so cute, he couldn't get enough (and was upset when we decided that he had had enough)!  Our little boys certainly likes to eat!!  After everyone else ate cake and popsicles, the kids started a water balloon fight, which turned into a soak-the-adults water fight (I am certainly glad we decided to do it at the park!!)  All in all, everyone seemed to have a great time and Daxton couldn't have been happier!!

More Soccer

The last week or so, the incentive for making a goal just wasn't enough to motivate Kennedy anymore.  She really wants to do it, but getting aggressive enough to push her way into the huddle and kick the ball was too daunting.  So, we changed the money rule.  Now, instead of just $1/goal, we decided to give her $0.10 each time she kicked the ball.  I was shocked at how much more aggressive she was!!  She was going after that ball like there was no tomorrow!!  This was by far the best game she has ever played!! She did great and made a killing!!  She kicked it 47 times (and, of course, Grandpa Victor said he would match our offer) so she made $9.40!!  It is a good thing she only has one more game left or we would be in the poor house!  (I gave Jay the camera to take some pictures and I guess he was so busy counting how many times she kicked the ball that he forgot to take pictures!  He remembered during half time, that is way we have more pictures of Daxton than Kennedy!)

Easter

After church, we went over to Wes & Talia's where the kids got their Easter baskets from Grandma Robin.  After playing with their new toys, they all (even Talen and Dax) participated in an Easter Egg hunt.  We did a little visiting and then went home to enjoy a quite, peaceful Sunday afternoon (just the way I like to spend my Sundays!).  Thanks Grandma Robin for the treats and toys!!  (and for Kennedy's beautiful Easter dress!)

Kennedy's Triathlon

Back in November of last year, we signed Kennedy up to do the SHAC Triathlon.  Well, the week before the race, she (and everyone else) got sick.  So, we had them reschedule her for the April Triathlon.  Well, we completely forgot about it until a week ago!!  We asked her if she wanted to post-pone it again, but she wanted to just do it.  So with only one time practicing the bike and run (which was not a very successful practice) she decided to give it a try.  I was not anticipating much, in fact, I was just praying that she completed it.  But she did so good!!  I was amazed.  I don't know if it was the adrenaline or what, but she did fantastic.  I couldn't have been more proud of her!!  She finished 19 out of 36 with a time of 21:23.  GREAT JOB KIKI!!!
