Looks like another month has come and gone!!  Talen had an appointment with Dr. Such-Neibar on the 1st.  We asked her if she knew the results of Talen's overnight EEG.  She looked it up and it said that he has "seizure-like" activity, but she also said that it still does not mean that he his having seizures.  Guess we will just have to wait and see what Dr. Sakonju (neurologist) says to do.  I sure wish that we could catch him having one of his episodes when he is being monitored - little stinker!!  Dr. Such-Neibar also wants another hip x-ray (but she wants it done at Primary's), so we will do that on our way up to Idaho for Thanksgiving.

I got my birthday/Christmas present a little early this year!  I had borrowed Mark Adams' road bike once or twice to see if I would like it before we made the plunge and bought a bike for me.  Well, even on a bike that was too big and clip-in shoes that were way too big, I loved it!  So, after looking around a bit, we decided on a cute black and blue one.  My first ride was a 30 miler and it was GREAT!!  (I could barely walk when I was done, but I loved it!!)  Century - here I come!!

As an update on Talen's school situation, I only ended up taking him twice.  I decided that I could watch him just as good at home as I could at school, and at home I didn't have to get a babysitter for Daxton.  Lisa went in two weeks after her last Fit-for-Duty test and passed it!!  Hooray!!  So, she is officially hired and Talen's aide.  However, as soon as Lisa started, Talen got sick.  Go figure!! 

Daxton Loves Shoes!!

Just saying that Daxton loves shoes is a huge understatement!!  He is constantly trying to put on them on, it doesn't matter whose they are!!  If  he sees a shoe, he figures out a way to get it on his feet.  What a silly boy!!

Talen starts Kindergarten!!

We had a little bit more stressful time getting Talen to start school than we did with Kennedy.  Before school let out last year, I had a meeting with the principal (Principal Walters), Talen's new Special Needs teacher, and other several other people who have worked with Talen at the Preschool to make sure that his transition from Preschool to Kindergarten went smoothly.  Well, it didn't quite turn out that way.  About a two weeks ago I got phone call from his Special Needs teacher.  It turned out that it was not the same teacher that I had met at the meeting a couple months ago.  To make a long story a little shorter I will leave out some of the details, but I was not happy nor comfortable having Talen being in the "new" special needs classroom.  So I sat down with Principal Staheli to discuss my concerns.  Turns out that the teacher I had met before took a job in another state and that is why Talen was moved into the other class.  I was concerned because if something were to happen to Talen at school I would have to way of knowing because he can't tell me or let me know in any way.  So, after some discussion, Staheli had mentioned that there were two positions open in the special needs classroom.  If I could find someone that I was comfortable with, to send them down, and he would see about hiring them as Talen's personal aide.  So, after I talked to a couple people that I knew, Jay asked why I hadn't asked our good friend Lisa Caver to do it.  She had been looking for a job for a couple years now and I definitely trust her with Talen.  So, I gave her a call.  As soon as I told her what I was calling for, without hesitation, she said she would do it.  So the next day she went down to the school and applied.  She talked to all the necessary people, filled out the paperwork, passed the tests and backgroud check, all she had left to do was the Fit for Duty test and get her badge made and she would officially be hired!  So the day before school starts she went to take the Fit for Duty test and the guy jerk administering the test wouldn't pass her.  She did everything they asked her to, but when it came to lifting the 55 pound dummy from the ground to standing, she couldn't do it "correctly".  She did it (several times actually), but it was not the way that he thought that it should be done, so he would not pass her.  We were so bummed.  After several phone calls from both Lisa and the Principal, the district decided that they would let her retest, but she has to wait a week before she can.  So, if I want Talen to go to Kindergarten, I am going to be going too!!  Let's all cross our fingers and pray that either Lisa practices enough to pacify the tester or he is out sick the next time she goes in!!  So, today Talen and I are off to his first day of Kindergarten.  His teacher is Miss Bonnie and she seems pretty nice.  After going the first day, I decided that I will NOT sent Talen to school unless either I or Lisa are with him.  They are so understaffed it is absolutely ridiculous!!  So, I'm going back to Kindergarten!!

Q-tips

This little boy is so mischievous!!  The other day I noticed he was really quiet, so I figured I better go check on him.  I found him hiding behind the chair in Talen's room, playing with and entire box of Q-tips!!  Little stinker!!

 

 

1st Day of 3rd Grade

One question - how do I slow down time???  I can't believe that my KiKi is going into third grade.  It seems like just 2 minutes ago she was learning to crawl now all the sudden I have this little young lady walking around.  CRAZY!!  Well, today was the 1st day of school.  Because of the change in principals so late in the year last year, we didn't know who Kennedy had as a teacher until just a couple days ago.  I didn't know any of the 3rd grade teachers personally so I didn't really care who she got (although I had heard of a couple that I didn't really want her to have).  She was really hoping to get Mr. Haluska and, as fate would have it, that is exactly who she got.  When the posted the lists, she was so excited!!  It was cute because as soon as she found out who her teacher was, started looking to find out if Josh (the little autistic boy that she helped last year) was in her class too.  She was pretty bummed when she saw that he wasn't, but she decided that didn't matter, she was gonna keep playing with him anyway.  We were able to go meet Mr. Haluska at the open house the day before school started.  He seems pretty nice and a good fit for Kennedy.  She doesn't have anyone in her class that I even know, but I'm not worried, she makes friends so easily, it should be a good year for her!!  Love you KiKi!!    

Cards for Talen

Talen has not been feeling really well lately, so I suggested that we give him a blessing.  We called almost everyone that we thought would be home, but no one was answering their phones.  So, we called Bro. McIver and he came right over (he and his wife are Talen's primary teachers).  After the blessing, Kennedy and I went to church while Jay stayed home with the boys.  After church, Bro. and Sis. McIver brought over the cutest little "get well" card that their class had made for Talen.  It was so sweet!!  Almost every single get well card had a picture of them and Talen together.  The cutest part was that you could totally tell that it was Talen because they drew him in his wheelchair.  I just love how sweet and perceptive 5 year olds can be!!
