MARCH 2017

This month was the month of home improvements.  We finally got the fake grass put in around the trampoline.  The boys loved watching the guys lay it and even wanted to help (not sure if they were actually helping or were just in the way, but they were sure happy).  We still have the section just outside the back door, but with the leftovers, we should be able to get that area done this year as well (given that we can get all the extra dirt moved).  I finally bugged Jay enough to order a new garage door.  Every time the weather gets a little colder our garage door would buckle as it was closing, which made it so that it wouldn't close completely.  We had mastered how to get it close properly, but sometimes it took several tries of rolling the door up and down and up and down until it finally went down without buckling.  So, we order and had a new door installed.  I love it!!  I hadn't realized how nice it is to have a garage door that actually works the first time you push the button.  Oh, the little things we take for granted!! 

The only other thing that happened this month was that I started training for my third century!!  I sure love riding, but I can definitely tell that I am getting older because it doesn't come as easy as it did a year ago.  Oh well, I'm staying in shape and that's what really matters, right?!

Daxton plays soccer

I finally got Daxton signed up for soccer before the deadline!!  He is on a team with several kids that he knows from school and from church.  He has practice once a week and a game on the weekends.  He is not the most aggressive player, but he seems to be having fun.  We just need to teach him that he can't score a goal if he is always volunteering to sit out, little stinker.  By the end of the season he was doing much better though.  No goals, but he got in lots of good kicks and learned quite a bit about the game.  Maybe by next year he will find his aggression, hehehe.

Carter's Preschool Parent Night

Every couple months Carter's preschool has a parent night so that we can go see what they are learning.  This time he was learning about knights, dinosaurs, and volcanos.  I have to admit, I don't really like the preschool this year.  It is the same one that Daxton went to, but because they received a grant, they were required to change the cirriculum.  I am not impressed!!  It feels like they are more concerned with teaching these things that aren't really necessary and less concerned with things like the alphabet and numbers.  Unless things change, we are definitely NOT going to be doing this preschool again.  It is sad because I do really like his teacher, but this cirriculum is ridiculous!  I guess we will just cross our fingers that Carter can catch up next year with all that he is missing this year! 

Trip to Las Vegas

Because Kennedy's volleyball tournament was so close to Robin's house, we decided to take the whole family down and spend the weekend.  Aside from the volleyball tournament (which both Jay and I were able to enjoy because Robin kept Carter and Talen for us), here are some of the highlights of our visit: Carter accidentally spilling yogurt all over his head, spending time playing with Boo the monkey, gathering the eggs from the chickens and going to the Springs Preserve Museum.  It's always fun to go visit Grandma Robin!

SUVA Tournament #2

This tournament was super close to Robin's house, so we decided to take the whole family down to Vegas this time.  Robin offered to watch the boys so that both Jay and I could watch Kennedy play.  She did great!!  It is amazing how much better they are all getting!!  Two of the girls were not able to make it so that meant less time sitting out for everyone - in fact, Kennedy stayed in both sets of all 3 games because they have finally gotten pretty set on their positions.  And with there really only being 2 setters (Kennedy & Halle), KiKi is in most of the time now.  They didn't win any games, but the improvement from that first tournament is fantastic.  In fact, this time they even played a boys team!  They totally could have won them too, but they had one guy on the team who ran the court and every time he was up to serve, he just ran the score.  If it hadn't been for him, they would have killed it!!  So proud of Kennedy for the time and effort she is putting into something that she loves!!  Great job KiKi!!

It's not often that a teenager gives notes of gratitude, so when it happens, it NEEDS to be documented!!  Although, Kennedy is such a good kid, it doesn't really surprise me when she does nice stuff like this!
