JULY 2018

July was a very busy month for us.  At the beginning of the month we took Talen in to get x-rays for our appointment with Dr. Stotts.  He said that his hips and everything looks really good, so we don't need to worry about doing anything with him other than the operation on Talen's back (but that is more Dr. Hefflin's area of expertise). 

Both Kennedy and Talen had dentist appointments this month.  Talen did pretty good again this time.  It seems that our little trick of leaving him in his wheelchair is working really well. 

Kennedy spoke in church on the 8th.  She was asked to speak on Girls Camp, so luckily she wasn't too unhappy when they asked her to talk. 

On the 10th, the boys went to a BMX Clinic put on by some professional riders.  They learned lots (hopefully they will use what they have learned), but Carter was under the impression that they were there to teach them how to do flips and tricks and stuff.  I guess Jay has been watching the X-Games a little too much because Carter wants to learn how to ride like them.  Luckily, this isn't that kind of riding!

Talen also saw Dr. Kaddu for a follow-up - all is well.  Talen has also had several appointments with Jared (our muscle guy) in preparation for his upcoming surgery.  Talen handles Jared working on his really well, so we are praying that we will see some benefits from all this when he has his surgery.

Jay was feeling adventurous towards the end of the month and decided to take the boys camping.  Really, he went because Justin was taking Micah and Jay thought it would be fun to get them out into nature and do a little fishing.  He said it was fun and the boys had a blast, but not sure if he wants to ever do it again (at least not until they are a little bigger and can listen better - will that ever happen?!?).

The last event in July was the DSU Elite Volleyball Camp that Kennedy attended.  She learned a lot and had a good time playing volleyball in the off-season.  She is turning out to be quite the good little player!!

Where did my little boys go??

Who let Kennedy play with washable markers???  I don't know why they agreed to let her draw on their faces, but I no longer have little boys, I have a bunch of men in this house!  Now I am praying that it really does wash off, or we are going to have some explaining to do the next time we go to church!!!

2018 Wet N Wild trip #3

This trip to Wet N Wild was kind of a flop.  It was just going to be me and the kids, but thankfully at the last minute Jay was able to come with us.  Just before we left I had checked my email and I had received a message from Wet N Wild saying that they would have a delayed opening because one of the pipes and broken and it was being repaired.  We decided to still head down, but we took our time instead of rushing.  When we got there, it still hadn't opened, so we decided to go watch a movie while we waited.  As we were driving to the movie, the car started to act a little funny.  So, we pulled over and asked someone to direct us to the nearest Meineke.  We ended up spending the next 4 hours in the waiting area of the Meineke while they diagnosed the car.  It needed a new fuel pump!!  Once the Wet N Wild website showed that it was finally opened, we called Gavin to give us a ride to the water park.  We finally arrived at Wet N Wild around 4 pm.  We played for an hour and a half and then Jay called for an Uber to take him back to Meineke to pick up the car.  After it was fixed, he came back to pick us up from the park around 6:30.  It really wasn't the afternoon that we had planned, and it was WAY more expensive that we wanted, but it was fun to get out of town even if we were only able to spend a couple hours in the water.  Let's pray that our next trip is a lot less exciting!!

Swim Lessons

I signed the boys up to do swim lessons with our neighbor Jill Wittwer again this summer.  They went for 2 weeks and on the last day, the parents are allowed to go watch.  Both Dax and Carter did fantastic.  I can't believe how much better they are this year than last.  They are both so much more comfortable in the water and I can totally tell that they are nearing the end of the "life jacket" phase.  Thank heavens Brooke bought a house with a swimming pool, because I really think that going over there so much has gotten them to the point that they are now.  They both passed their class and will be able to advance up to the next level next year.  So proud of my little swimmers!!

BMX State Races

   We decided to take the boys to the state races so that they could qualify for State Plates.  This year, they had three state races in three different cities on three consecutive days.  So, we decided to make a long weekend of it and hit them all.  Of course, it all started with our regular race on Wednesday out at Virgin.
   On Thursday, the race trip began.  Because we aren't yet comfortable with leaving Talen for more than one night, I decided to miss out on the first race and let Victor go with Jay.  The first one was in West Jordan at the Rad Canyon track.  Jay said the track was awesome!!  I was able to watch some of the races via Marco Polo, but Kennedy wasn't the best at telling me what exactly was going on so I missed out on some of the info.  However, the boys did fantastic and had a great time.  Carter finished with a 3rd place and got his first ever trophy!  Dax came in last, but he had a big crash in one of the qualifying rounds so he was a little nervous about being real aggressive in the main.

  On Friday they raced in Gunnison.  They killed time before the races by checking out the dinosaur museum at Thankgiving Point before they made their way to the Gunnison track.  I drove Victors car from home so that I could be there to watch them race in person.  It was a rickety old track, but pulled in a good little crowd for the state race.  This time both Carter and Dax took home a 4th place.

   On Saturday, they raced in Richfield.  This track was nice too, but it was so stinking hot!!  The boys raced their hardest and had a fantastic time!  Carter took 4th and Dax took 5th.  I couldn't be more proud of these two little racing boys!!  I really do think that we have found a sport that we will pursue for many years to come!

We got a pool

Since Brooke bought a house with a swimming pool, the boys have been begging for us to get a pool.  So, I caved in and got them a pool.  I don't think it was quite what they were expecting when they ran outside, but they made the best of it and played in our "tiny" pool for hours!  Hehehe, I crack myself up, hehehe!!!

Carter Sauce turns 5!!

I can't believe that my baby is 5!!  We started off with doughnuts for breakfast - and a huge one for the birthday boy!!  Later in the day Amy came over and took Carter out for a birthday treat - ice cream.  After they got back we had lunch, then went over to Brooke's house for swimming and celebrating.  We had everyone swim in Brooke's pool while Jay cooked hot dogs and hamburgers.  Carter opened presents and we all shared our traditional ice cream cake.  Carter was spoiled with toys and new BMX riding gear.  What an adorable 5 year old!  Love you buddy!!
